Established in 1958, the college began with undergraduate programs and later expanded to postgraduate studies. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act, 1956. The college was granted autonomous status by the UGC in 1994, allowing it academic and administrative independence. It is affiliated with Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa (Madhya Pradesh). Accredited by NAAC with a B Grade in its latest assessment.
